Speaker: State Sen. Mae Beavers
Senator Mae Beavers has been serving Tennessee’s District 17 (Cannon, Clay, DeKalb, Macon, Smith, and Wilson Counties) since 2002.
*Mae was one of the only state legislators to have originally voted against Common Core when it first entered the state years ago.
*Mae led the fight against Tennessee’s state income tax.
*Mae is a strong friend of the Tenth Amendment. She has consistently voted against federal mandates and has sponsored legislation to fight back against unconstitutional federal mandates on the state level.
*Mae has been named “Tennessee’s Iron Lady” by many. A fitting title for the chief sponsor of the Firearms Freedom Act, which severely limits Washington’s ability to regulate firearms in the state of Tennessee.
*Mae sponsored the Healthcare Freedom Act to fight back against Obamacare so that Tennesseans could have the right to choose their own form of healthcare.
*Mae has fought to protect the right to privacy. She has passed a law that limits the state from using drones to monitor citizens. Also, she was a central sponsor of the Tennessee Fourth Amendment Protection Act.
*Mae sponsored legislation to decrease the sales tax on food.
*Mae continues to fight for pro-life and pro-family issues.
*In 2013 & 2014, Mae was awarded the Nashville Chamber of Commerce “Friend of Business” award. She has also been awarded the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) Protector of Business Award. The NFIB, has endorsed for the upcoming 2014 Republican Primary.
